You truly need to experience it, to have your world rocked to the core. This happens after Doug identifies a point of view that is simple truth and is incredibly different.
I’ve asked Doug; “how do you do that, how do you see the things that no one else can see, his answer was surprising… He simply said; “I don’t know, it’s a gift that God blessed me with.” The more I think about this the more I can say without a doubt…it is a gift and it is from God. You truly need to experience it, to have your world rocked to the core. This happens after Doug identifies a point of view that is simple truth and is incredibly different. We all face those tough questions or struggle with decisions that we feel will end all things as we know it if we make the wrong decision. Well it doesn’t have to be that difficult and it really doesn’t need to be that daunting. Here is one pearl I got from Doug on how to make a choice on something – take a coin – heads is one choice and tails is the other, flip the coin in the air and before it lands, the one you’re hoping it lands on is the choice you should make, regardless of what side the coin lands on. Do you see the simple truth in that! You already know what choice you want to make, it’s in your heart already, just simply make that your choice. Man I loved that one, it has taken the worry out of making choices – it is simple and it is choosing the true choice, not the choice I’m “trying” to make for someone else.
Doug’s teaching was as different as his former title and he taught me to look at things in a different way. I started discipleship program with Doug a little less than a year ago and you know what’s really cool, this is the second time that’s I’ve done a discipleship program. The first one was before I was at TTC and it was a “program” – you buy a set of workbooks and follow along each step of the program week to week. It’s all very structured and well not very spirit filled. As soon as I started the discipleship program with Doug I noticed something different – he was customizing the program for me, for my walk with God, for my strengths and weaknesses. Now this is discipleship, this was something special, this was something different and I am a better follower of Christ, a better father, a better manager, a better person because of this. Let me see if I can give some examples; it’s not easy to identify in just words because it’s the way Doug takes the time to listen, to question, to get to know me, to truly break down the barriers that I’ve built up for myself from taking that next step in truth and discovery. This is what Doug calls the “push”… he helps to push you to think outside the box, to see things from a different perspective, to truly take a step that is outside the norm. This is the best part of working with Doug but it is also the part the chases people away. These people aren’t ready to drop the act, they just can’t face the hard questions that push you towards honest change. So people either can’t handle change or flat out don’t want to change. I will tell anyone that wants to work with Doug; first ask yourself, “are you willing to change the way they look at things?” Are you open to seeing obstacles as opportunities for growth? Are ready to have your world rocked to the core? Being different takes courage because too many people don’t like to “rock the boat”. You have to be willing to say OK that might be different than everything the world tells you, but what could happen if…??
Let me sum up by telling you this – if you are tired of hearing the same old thing and you feel like you’re banging your head against the wall with the worlds way of doing things – try something different and see what “different.ly” can do for you.
